I am from the North, so I am not familair with Southern bank. I use a credit union. They are smaller than bank, offer duplicate perks, lower fees and really acquire to know you. There are lots of good bank out there. Most present the debit card, most only require a $100 deposit. Some form of authorization will be needed (picture ID). And if you are wanting the Visa type, you might check with the ridge, some only give Mastercard Debit cards. Ask around with those you work beside on which bank they use. Good luck.
