Smart move. Build credit. Pay the bill on time and don't buy anything that takes forever to pay cheque off. DO make more than the minimum sum. Keep a SMALL balance on the card every month.

A good card is ANY card near a low interest rate (in the single digits) with no annual fee. This might be tough to find at age 18... but who know.
If this is your first credit card are still in institution your best choice will be a student credit card because they offer lower rates plus no annual fees, Discover, American Express are great cards but you will only attain appoved if you have stablished credit which sounds like you don't so I would start next to a lower end card that you will get approved for sure and work your self up, if you use your card and trademark full payments at the end of the month you will see your credit score travel up in about 6-9 moths, be in motion to www.fastcredicardapprovals.com and compare all major credit cards side by side. Also check out the student card clause.

Washington Mutual. You can scene your account on line and see your credit ranking for free any time you want. Most places charge you to see your score.
Your credit score is what determines your accurate or bad credit.
If you've never have a credit card before - your options will be set. You'll probably have to choose a credit card for "poor or no credit" - which will end up have higher interest rates and additional fees. Of course, over time your credit gain will build up and eventually you'll be able to get a better grant. For now, these are the types of credit cards you'll probably need to consider: http://www.asapcreditcard.com/poor-credi...

Are you going to college? There are also heaps choices specifically for college students. "Student credit cards" will also have higher interest rates - but not as several fees as the offers described above. You can find examples of student credit cards here: http://www.asapcreditcard.com/student-ca...

The important piece is to only carry a small match (never exceed 50% of your available credit) and ALWAYS PAY ON-TIME. This will have the greatest impact on your credit score and will facilitate you improve your credit rating so that you can eventually get a better card, an auto loan, and soon... a mortgage.

Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!
