How can you stop unauthorized inquiries on credit report? It is my understanding that I can ask the credit bureaus to

It is my understanding that I can ask the credit bureaus to not allow inquiries to my credit database without my prior approval. Does anyone know anything going on for this or a source for a good form message? Thanks.

Answers:
There are 2 types of inquiries.

A Soft Inquiry is when a company pulls limited information for pre-approval items such as the credit card and insurance offer you get. To stop these you can stir to http://www.optoutprescreen.com and request that your name be taken stale of these lists.

A Hard Inquiry is when you hold requested new credit. So the simply way for these to come about is if you do approve it. However, if you feel you may enjoy some identity theft concerns you can place a fraud alert on your report for 90 days. This is beyond doubt free to do and when you contact one company they will notify the other 2. If you need one longer than 90 days, you can get hold of it for 7 years. If you request the 7 year one you may need to show proof of identity embezzlement such as a police report.
OC1999 stole my answer. He is correct. No one can do a hard inquiry unless they enjoy a permissible purpose. Which would be if you are applying for credit or if you already enjoy a line of credit near someone, such as a credit card company and they are checking to assess their risk.
In some states you can put a "freeze" on you credit report. That money that NOBODY can get your credit report unless you consent.

Check next to the credit bureau to see if you are in one of these states.

I recommend you do this to protect you from identity aggravated burglary.
No such facility here in UK. If you try to block inquiries, how do you expect to achieve credit or whatever facility it is you are seeking
OC1999 has a GREAT answer... the opt out point works, too!
