Answers: You are talking roughly "Unclaimed Property". This company(and others like it) are providing a service you can do for yourself for free(or tremendously low cost).
You have to locate for unclaimed property within each state, but this is not as fruitless as it sounds. For example if you lived in Texas your entire time you just call for to look at Texas, looking at information in Maine is probably not going to capture you anywhere.
The link below give you a list by state to the offical state agency that handle "Unclaimed Property". If you find a possibility these sites will give you instructions on how to engineer your claim.
