Gas charge? I've always notice this and never understood why. Whenever I foot for

I've always notice this and never understood why. Whenever I foot for gas with my credit or debit card, it shows up on the online ridge activity as $1.00 until it is completely approved, and for some idea, the approval process is about twice as long as average. Does anyone know why it does this?

Answers:
The $1.00 is a pre-authorization. When you first slide your card, the system checks to see that it is an active commentary. If it accepts the $1.00 amount, the gas pump will allow you to get going pumping gas. The station doesn't know how much your total bill will be until you are done so they safeguard themselves a little by making sure your card is honest.
I use Bank of America and I see the same item. Other banks I hold used do not show it. Its just a pre-authorization charge that they doing. You are not in fact being charged an extra dollar. The charge drop rotten once the full charge has gone through.
