I have not long been getting call and letters sent to my home from a collection agency that claims I owe $400, it does not utter what I owe for. I have never have any credit cards, or have taken or used credit, could this be a scam?
Tell them you want proof of the account from innovative creditor. If they don't provide that to you, ignore the call and contact the BBB.
First, they have to bring up to date you who the creditor is. Second- you can, in writing, dispute the reasonableness of the debt within 30 days of your first contact near the collection agency. They must, by law, verify the debt previously they can take further collection doings.
file a complaint against them. progress to www.ftc.gov

Answers: Any collection attempt requires them to offer you the right to dispute the collection, in writing, inwardly 30 days.
They are then responsible for proving or validate the debt.
Do it now, within writing, and go to the post organization and send the dispatch by certified mail beside return receipt. Costs I don`t know two bucks. If you just convey it regular mail, they can pretend it never get there.
Keep a photocopy of the message you signed with your messages records. Add the little green delivery when you get it spinal column in the correspondence. Then wait to see what happen.
You should also, while you're sending them letters, affix a sentence that you are no longer accepting their phone calls, and that adjectives future correspondence be done by communication. This is the only road you can stop them from calling you in the meanwhile.
Just be sure to respond when you achieve something back proving the debt. If it's valid, you can ring them and attempt to negotiate the balance down. Just be organized to pay them inside 24 hours. Start by offering 10%, they'll probably talk you up to 50-60% of the symmetry.
fukinlucky gave pious advice. Certified mail/return account requested actually costs $4.64 for a 1 oz. communication. That's $2.40 for being certified, $1.85 for the return reception, and $0.39 for postage. For more than 1 oz., calculate middle-of-the-road postage and add the certified and return receiving fees above.
Find out where they get this information. They have to put in the picture you what they are collecting for.
