depends on where you live. the costs of living varies. $30k is severely low in new york and california, but may be considered soaring in kansas or iowa.

It's not low. Depending on your field you may make more or smaller number. For example, an Engineer will make more (significantly) while a starting teacher or social worker may take home less. It also depends on your place of employment. State Colleges are unlikely to pay as much as a corporate business.

Depends on what your qualifications are. If you own a high-school education, count your blessings. If you are a trade-school graduate check with others contained by your specialty and see what they get. If you have a college point and are starting out in a new assignment, see how the raises come, if you have a level in any of the engineering fields, catch a new job.
